As the recognized voice of the Engineering Industry, ACEC must always be at the forefront of change. With our world changing at a much faster pace each year, our industry must also be ready and able to adapt to such changes. However, if our response is to be only a reaction to change, our industry will take longer and longer to adapt. So in an effort to affect change rather than being only affected by such changes, we must put forth plans for the future of our industry.

Such planning must start with the inspiration, excitement, and education of our future staff. Therefore, it is our pleasure to, once again, welcome the Deans of the Commonwealth of Virginia Engineering schools to a forum to discuss the educational needs and potential skills of our future staff. Such discussions will also involve the national need to increase the number of engineering graduates to sustain our industry’s workforce.

Objectives for this session:

  • Panel discussion to review engineering employment and educational programming needs
  • The importance of preparing engineering students for the current and future needs of our industry.
  • Challenges in recruiting engineering students to colleges and universities
  • Challenges in recruiting engineering graduates to our firms
  • Preparation for evolving engineering students into engineering employees
  • Learning methods for engineering students to be prepared for the industry
